Animal, Vegetable or Mineral

Using coil, slab and pinch methods of construction students were challenged to create a sculpture of something animal, vegetable, mineral, or an abstraction or combination of imagery. The objects may morph from one to the next or exist as an object on a base.

Drawing inspiration from the monuments, headstones, gardens and landscape of Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, OH students created freestanding sculptures based on specific imagery from the cemetery. Referencing a detail, shape, figure or animal from the monuments at Spring Grove Cemetery students were challenged to create an exacting replica or new piece with a contemporary twist.
